Unfortunately, this flickr slideshow doesn't reveal the description, but two interesting photos show two people more masochistic than the rest of the group (approx 40 people at the start and ~ 30 people at the end):
- A lady riding with a big and heavy chain wrapped around her hips
- A spanish-speaking guy who decided to join our groups blindly when he spotted us on Embarcadero (a flat part). This is the worse ride ever to join at random.
The seven "Hells" were: (I wonder where to find the official grades)
- Mt sutro (by Warren Drive)
- Mt Davidson (by Dallewood way)
- Twin Peaks (by north)
- Dolores Heights (21st from Dolores to Noe st)
- Russian Hill (Jones st, 26% followed by 29% grade)
- Nob Hill (California st.)
- Pacific heights (Divisadero by North)
They've just ask me for feedback.
I decided to share with a broader audience. I really like the service but there is room for improvement.
- You could finally add parking in my area : east potrero. Right know it's a desert.
- It would be nice to add a list of known issues on the car. That list would be available online and it would save us the hassle to report issues that you already know about.
- an Airport Service would be nice and cost effective. allow people to drop cars at the airport (which requires parking flexibility on your end).
- It's not very obvious how we would benefit from cleaning the car, or filling the water/soap tank.
- Please add a "I forgot my password" link on the mobile version of the site.
- It would be nice if you could recognize incoming phone numbers + birth date instead of asking the zipcard number + birthdate (but the initial problem anyway is that I phone you too much because of #2).
- parking agreement with cities would be awesome (they should make parking free for car sharing since it helps traffic etc...)
- I have to bike to parking (see above), maybe I'm a minority, but in such circumstance it would be nice to have a "bike garage" available in the parking. That way the bike would be protected for the time of the reservation.
- Great service overall, I like being part of community of car sharers.
Last post reminded me that my bike is a bit more than one year old. I got it the first week-end after I landed (thanks randy for touring bike shops with me)...
- 2 tires used
- ~ 10 flats (It's better with the new tires!)
- ~ 10km/day (6.3 miles/day) = 3650 km (2300 miles) total (based on my 10km commute trip)
- My Garmin Forerunner indicated a total of 220km after my run this morning. So I probably ran 350km since I started (1/10 of what I do by bike).
... And I don't regret a mile!
Last week, Apple unveiled new devices and a partner ship with Starbucks allowing customers to see on their apple device what is the name of the song the coffee shop is currently playing, and why not purchase it on the go.
I don't go to starbucks that often (maybe I've been 3 times since I arrived in San Francisco :), but I go a lot more into small coffee shops, with a nice atmosphere -- like Farley's.
And the music at Farley's rocks -- I would definitively buy songs from there (provided I had an iPhone or iPod Touch ;)
So, why Apple don't open the Wi-Fi Music Store to everyone? I guess It's a simple Bonjour service broadcasting informations about the song being played with an url to the Music Store. Yes that would be open, simple, and yes it would be free advertisement for the apple brand.
I'm waiting apple to release a new version of iTunes with a new "Advanced Tab" mutating the computer to a Wi-Fi Music Store Station (with a form to fill affiliates identifiers for revenue sharing), so that I could start buying from Farley's instead of waiting 2 years for a complete deployment in the Starbucks I never go to.
This is where all the fun folks were for the last two weeks.
People returning from burning man cannot be missed in San Francisco: exhausted but happy folks in very very very dusty vehicules.
